The Seven Chakras: What Are Their Purposes? – Part 1/7

Each chakra serves a unique purpose

Written by Wes Annac, The Culture of Awareness

We hear a lot of talk about ‘chakras’ in the spiritual community, but what exactly are they? What purpose do they serve?

As we’ll learn here, chakras are literal, inner energy centers, and they provide us with an important link to the other side of the veil. It can be easy to feel like we’re cut off from spirit here on earth, but in reality, we’re constantly connected with the higher realms.

We constantly bring through creative, spiritual energy, and our chakras play an important role in this. We’ll develop our chakras more easily if we get to know them better, and before we know it, we’ll consciously bring through waves of pure energy that’ll have a massive effect on the collective consciousness.

If all of the conscious public knew about their chakras and the fact that these energy centers can be utilized to increase our reception of the energy that’s helping us evolve, the planetary vibration would rise as more and more of us started acting on our potential as lightworkers.

As we’ll also learn here, the chakras don’t just serve our spiritual needs. They actually help regulate various parts of the physical body that are essential to our daily survival, and as we continue to evolve, we’ll find that they played a wealth of other roles too.

We’re believed to have a lot of chakras, most of which haven’t yet come online, but for this report, we’ll focus on the seven main chakras we’re believed to carry in our subtler bodies.

First, we’ll focus on chakra #1: The root chakra. As Kellie Jo Conn tells us, the root chakra is located at the base of the spine, and it’s primarily responsible for our drive to physically survive.

“Studying the individual chakras begins with the root chakra, called Muladhara in Sanskrit. The root chakra is located at the base of the spine at the tailbone in back, and the pubic bone in front. This center holds the basic needs for survival, security and safety.

“The root chakra is powerfully related to our contact with the Earth Mother, providing us with the ability to be grounded into the earth plane. This is also the center of manifestation. When you are trying to make things happen in the material world, business or material possessions, the energy to succeed will come from the first chakra.” (1)

We can connect with Mother Earth through the root chakra, and we can thank her for all of the bounties she’s placed before us, which, for the most part, have been ravaged. When we focus our energy on the root chakra, our sense of balance and grounded-ness to the earth increases, and this can result in an increase in our clarity of mind.

It’ll also increase our reception of the flowing energies of the heart, and it helps us manifest things in our physical reality, as long as we’re focused enough to do the work that’s required on our end to manifest them. We’re capable of manifesting anything, but we have to be in it for the long haul.

Nothing will happen for us overnight, but with willingness and dedication, everything is ultimately achievable.

If the root chakra is blocked, it could cause feelings of fear, nervousness and anxiousness, Kelly advises. We’re also told about the gemstones that help bring this chakra into balance.

“If this chakra is blocked an individual may feel fearful, anxious, insecure and frustrated. Problems like obesity, anorexia nervosa, and knee troubles can occur. Root body parts include the hips, legs, lower back and sexual organs. The colors used for this chakra are red, brown and black.

“The gemstones are Garnet, Smoky Quartz, Obsidian, and Black Tourmaline.” (2)

Mind Body Green affirms Kellie’s description of the root chakra.

Root Chakra – Represents our foundation and feeling of being grounded.

“Location: Base of spine in tailbone area.

“Emotional issues: Survival issues such as financial independence, money, and food.” (3)

Eclectic Energies outlines the qualities of an aligned root chakra.

“The Root chakra is about being physically there and feeling at home in situations. If it is open, you feel grounded, stable and secure. You don’t unnecessarily distrust people. You feel present in the here and now and connected to your physical body. You feel you have sufficient territory.” (4)

Basically, the root chakra helps us feel like we’re a part of this physical reality, instead of feeling like we’re going to float away any minute. Most of us have been on the earth for a very long time, and as such, we’re as much a part of this planet as anyone else.

Even though there’s nothing wrong with focusing on spirit, there’s also nothing wrong with staying grounded to this reality instead of falling out of balance and overflowing our chakras with emotion or energy, which isn’t advised.

Eclectic Energies also outlines the qualities of an underused and overused root chakra.

“If you tend to be fearful or nervous, your Root chakra is probably under-active. You’d easily feel unwelcome.

“If this chakra is over-active, you may be very materialistic and greedy. You’re probably obsessed with being secure and resist change.” (5)

As with all things, the best thing we can do is to balance our root chakra and every other chakra that could otherwise go undernourished or over-nourished. We don’t help anyone when we overflow our chakras, and instead, we can express our creative and emotional energy much more lightly; in a much more balanced and secure way.

If we do, we’ll be able to handle our physical reality and express our spirituality with ease. It’d be easy to alienate ourselves by expressing our spirituality in a way that others can’t relate to, but we won’t run into this problem if our root chakra is grounded.
