The idea of parallel worlds is one of the more favorite topics of science fiction writers, but also a popular subject of interest for many researchers. If you watched the Fringe series, you will remember that there were two simultaneously existing versions of the same world with slight differences between them. It seems that something like this could be possible, according to a new quantum theory.
A group of Australian and US physicists suggests that there may exist multiple versions of our universe, which can interact with each other on a quantum level. Dr. Howard Wiseman and Dr. Michael Hall of Griffith University in Australia, together with Dr. Dirk-Andre Deckert from the University of California, published their so-called “Many Interacting Worlds” (MIW) theory in the journal Physical Review X. The University of California, Berkeley has struck again in their effort to be a hub for progress with the recent opening of their Alternative Meats Lab, which is currently offering its second course to students to make plant-based meats. As the demand for alternatives to meat in America rises, the university saw the need to be at the forefront of change by offering a spring course designed to teach students how to make their own plant-based meats. Since the class proved to be so popular, the college not only brought it back for fall this year but they also opened up the Alternative Meats Lab to further their mission. In my early thirties, I lost my mother to a rare, but deadly, form of cancer that was growing around her bile duct. Sixteen years later, my father also died from cancer. As horrific as the disease can be, I remember thinking during my mother’s illness that the treatment was worse than the cancer. Watching our mother endure chemotherapy — and the effect it had on her physical, mental and spiritual well-being — both my sister and I seriously questioned for the first time whether we would choose such a treatment if we were ever diagnosed with cancer. To this day, my answer is still a resounding NO. Continue reading Scientists Warn Chemotherapy Treatment May Encourage Aggressive Tumors and Spread Cancer

Have you ever wondered how various elements affect everything from what you eat to how you get around town? If so, you’re bound to love a new interactive periodic table developed by Boeing software engineer Keith Enevoldsen.
The Period Table of the Elements, in Pictures and Words, reveals how seemingly obscure elements — such as gallium and tantalum — influence daily life. When peering at the chart, for instance, one learns that Ruthenium is used in electric switches, Potassium abounds in fruits and vegetables, and Bromine makes photography film possible.
