Call to Stop Using Africans As GMO Guinea Pigs

By Heather Callaghan, Natural Blaze

The Alliance for Food Sovereignty in Africa is calling for an immediate halt on imports to South Africa of Monsanto’s high-risk second-generation gene-silencing GM maize meant for human consumers.

African Center for Biodiversity reports:

In an open letter to African biosafety regulators, AFSA rejects and condemns US corporation Monsanto’s plan to exploit millions of Africans as unwitting human guinea pigs for their latest genetic engineering experiment. AFSA also condemns the IITA (International Institute of Tropical Agriculture) field trial application in Nigeria using this same risky technology to produce GM cassava for the agro-fuels industry.

These GM applications target staple foods of maize and cassava, eaten by many millions of Africans every day. AFSA’s open letter states, “Scientists have reported that the untested gene-silencing effect is able to cross over into mammals and humans, and affect their genetic makeup with unknown potential negative consequences, and have called for long-term animal testing and stronger regulation before this goes ahead.”

GMOs Just Got A Lot More Frightening With Approval Of New Monsanto Product

By Christina Sarich, Thanks to Natural Blaze

Forget spraying pesticides on your food, now they’ll be genetically engineered to be in your food, thanks to Monsanto’s latest quiet approval via the US Environmental Protection Agency.

The EPA just told Monsanto they could go ahead and bypass spraying our crops with carcinogenic chemicals like Round Up and just go ahead and breed them right into the crops themselves. Using a process called RNA interference, Monsanto’s RNAi plant will supposedly kill pesky rootworms when they come along to chomp on them- but what else will these genetically modified crops do to beneficial bugs, the soil, and human health? The EPA has no idea, because they haven’t done a single trial on RNAi-altered crops. Continue reading GMOs Just Got A Lot More Frightening With Approval Of New Monsanto Product

One in Two Chance of Cancer in Canada as GMO Products Flood Food Supply

By Brandon Turbeville, Natural Blaze

It’s been a familiar retort for the last decade, that correlation does not equal causation. That may be true but it is also true that correlation is irrelevant or that it has not bearing to causation.

Most reasonable people could agree that when it comes to health and human life, potential dangers should be examined from all possible angles. Unfortunately, members of government, media and the medical industry don’t seem to agree. Continue reading One in Two Chance of Cancer in Canada as GMO Products Flood Food Supply

Neil DeGrasse Tyson Hosts Pro-GMO Corporate Propaganda Film ‘Food Evolution’

By Phillip Schneider, Waking Times

With the help of Monsanto money, Neil DeGrasse Tyson has launched a new film in an attempt to persuade the public to accept genetically modified foods (GMO’s). It isn’t the first time Neil has spoken out in favor of GMO’s, but he’s stepping it up to a whole new level with Food Evolution, which hit theaters across America on June 23rd.

The film is all about promoting the idea that the science is settled around genetic engineering, but just two years ago 300 scientists signed a paper bluntly titled ‘No scientific consensus on GMO safety.’ Much like the dated consensus that tobacco products are safe, Tyson apparently believes that a consensus on GMO’s only includes scientists who already agree with him. Illegal GE Bacteria Has Crept Into Animal Feed, Resistant to Antibiotics

By Heather Callaghan, Natural Blaze

It’s the stuff of sci-fi nightmares – an illegal strain of genetically engineered bacteria has been detected in EU animal feed through a GMO vitamin.

Jonathan Landsman, PhD and Allison Wilson, PhD claim in a new report: Continue reading Illegal GE Bacteria Has Crept Into Animal Feed, Resistant to Antibiotics

Illegal GMO Roundup Ready Corn Found Growing in Bolivia

By Heather Callaghan, Natural Blaze

The NGO, SOS MAIZ BOLIVIA has reported that genetically engineered Roundup Ready maize has been found growing illegally in the Bolivian village of Charagua, in the south of Santa Cruz department.

The illegal intrusion was discovered on March 17 2017, when “an expedition of agronomists, sociologists, economists and journalists organized by SOS MAIZ BOLIVIA went to the village and performed a scientific test that detected the GM maize (watch the video in Spanish here)” reports GM Watch. African Country Ditches GE Cotton, Non-GMO Cotton Output Rises 20 Percent

By Heather Callaghan, Natural Blaze

Burkina Faso is a Western African country located under Mali.

It also happens to be Africa’s biggest cotton grower, so a gamble on GMOs is a risk for the whole nation.

Although Burkina Faso (BF) did in fact make that gamble already with Monsanto’s genetically engineered cotton variety, but reverting back to non-GMO cotton has garnered greater yields. Continue reading African Country Ditches GE Cotton, Non-GMO Cotton Output Rises 20 Percent

GMO Potatoes Will Hit Stores and Restaurants Soon – If They Haven’t Already

By Daisy Luther, Natural Blaze

If you prefer to avoid genetically modified foods, here’s another one to avoid. GMO potatoes will be joining  GMO apples at a store near you very soon – if they aren’t there already.

Last week, the FDA added their approval (again) to that of the EPA, giving the go-ahead for these potatoes to be planted this spring for harvest in the fall.

The rollout of the spuds has been cloaked in a fair bit of secrecy. Generally, one would expect something “new and improved” to be presented via a high-budget advertising campaign, press releases, and a giant hurrah. But, since marketers know that the public doesn’t really want anyone messing with the genetics of their favorite root vegetable, they’ve just sort of snuck them into the food supply. University Study Laments “Just the Facts” Aren’t Enough to Convince Women of GMO Safety

By Brandon Turbeville, Natural Blaze

A recent series of focus groups conducted by researchers at the University of Adelaide is now demonstrating two things clearly: first, that Big Ag is growing increasingly desperate in its attempts to convince average consumers to continue purchasing their toxic products and remain unaware of any potential dangers. Second, that the unhealthy obsession with academia under the misapplied name of science is more akin to a religion than anything involving critical thought.

The results of the focus groups conducted by Dr. Heather Bray and Professor Rachel Ankeny was published in the journal New Genetics and Society and essentially acts as a brainstorming effort as to how big corporations through their minions at the university level can be more effective at convincing most people to trust GMOs. GMO Apples Hit American Stores This Month: How and Why to Avoid Them

By Daisy Luther, Natural Blaze

If a food company invented a new version of a typical food and then packaged it in a box without the ingredients, etc. listed on the packaging, there would be quite the outcry.

So why is it that Okanagan Specialty Fruits is allowed to market a new variety of GMO apples without telling people the reason they’re so “special” is that they are genetically modified? Continue reading GMO Apples Hit American Stores This Month: How and Why to Avoid Them
